The Interview

For several of our management roles, candidates are invited to come to Green Bay, Wisconsin for a formal day-long interview. During this time, candidates will usually have several interviews, each with a different member of the hiring team.

Preparing

To prepare for an interview, please note that Schneider National follows a behaviorally grounded, competency-based interview style. The most effective use of your time while preparing for an interview at Schneider National will be to review specific examples of your experiences at school, previous employment and life experiences that best tell your story.

Also take the time to get to know Schneider National. Candidates do not have to be industry experts, but they should show they have made the effort to research Schneider and our competitors. We recommend visiting www.schneider.com as well as our competitors' Web sites.

Ideas to help focus your planning:

  • Provide a specific example of a time when a co-worker or classmate criticized your work in front of others. How did you respond? Did that event shape the way you communicate with others?
  • Describe a system you use for keeping track of multiple projects. How do you track your progress? Is it effective? Why/why not?
  • Provide a specific example of a time when you sold your supervisor or professor on an idea or concept. How did you proceed? What was the result?
  • Describe a time when you put your needs aside to help a co-worker or classmate understand a task. How did you assist them? What was the result?
  • Describe two specific goals you set for yourself. Did you meet them? What steps did you take to ensure you met your goal? What did you learn from the experience?

During your interview, you may be asked to recall real-life examples of how you responded to different situations in various environments. Think of the interview as an opportunity to sell your story. Know your resume and accomplishments. As you respond to questions, use the elements of your accomplishments to craft your reply. More importantly, if you are not asked questions that will reveal your traits and experiences, take the initiative to work them into the conversation and sell your story. Your time will be limited — use it wisely! Good luck — we know you will do great!
