Mechanic Assistant
Mechanic Assistants provide general, non-diagnostic assistance to mechanics. You will complete routine work in the areas of tire changing, minor electrical and accident repairs and all the appropriate computer and paperwork. Other aspects of the job include various non-technical tasks like janitorial duties, routine parts stocking, counting and local pick-ups. You serve an important role in the Schneider National organization by keeping equipment in top condition. You help our truck drivers stay safe and keep our customers’ loads moving across the country.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist Mechanics on minor routine tractor and trailer repairs that do not require or involve in depth training or specialty knowledge.
- Read paper and electronic instructions to understand, document and close work orders.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of facility (inside and outside) and equipment.
- Utilize computer system (M5) to accurately create, track and complete work order repairs including the tracking of time (labor hours), parts used and work completed.
- Communicate with internal customers on such things as stances, wait times, reasons for repair decisions and status updates.
- Utilize forklift and company vehicles to unload, stock and pick-up parts at local vendors, dealers and suppliers.
- Steam clean and wash a wide range of parts and equipment.
- Load and unload small and large parts and packages.
- Perform manual paper tasks and general computer use.
- Stock and maintain parts inventory correctly and verifies invoices.
