General Mechanic
General Mechanics perform minor trailer and truck repairs requiring minimal diagnostic skills. You will provide general assistance to the team of mechanics. You are also responsible for completing routine repair work in the areas of tire changing, hydraulic, and minor electrical and accident repairs including completing the appropriate paperwork.
Duties and responsibilities
- Perform duties in the trailer, tractor and express areas of the shop. Complete trailer planned maintenance, annual inspections and minor repairs on door seals, hardware, electrical, brakes, mud flaps, Qualcomm, blower motors and body work. Read papers or electronic instructions to understand, document and close work orders.
- Work outdoors at the fuel island or similar areas to perform safety or other related inspections and write-ups.
- Perform express services including tire changing and minor brake, electrical and safety related inspections and work.
- Inspect components including loose tie rod ends, king pins, wheel bearing, hood adjustment and air ride height.
- Utilize computer system (M5 and Internet) to accurately create, track and complete work order repairs including the tracking of time (labor hours), parts used, work completed and locate technical information on the SNI Intranet or vendor Web sites.
- Estimate required repairs or directs estimates to a qualified Mechanic who can further diagnose and estimate the required repair, cost and timeline.
- Communicate with internal customers on such things as stances, wait times, reasons for repair decisions and status updates.
- Utilize forklift and company vehicles to unload, stock and pick up parts at local vendors, dealers/suppliers and stages planned maintenance.
- Steam clean and wash wide range of parts and equipment.
- When necessary, perform duties from service truck.
