Career Advancement
Schneider drivers are on the move
When it comes to great opportunities and career advancement, Schneider drivers have the edge. It’s important that drivers feel that they have the support they need while out on the road. We also realize that drivers have a lot of potential and inner drive.
As many Schneider drivers look for new and exciting career opportunities beyond driving, there’s no one better to support and mentor drivers than managers and trainers who used to be drivers themselves. We are committed to satisfying, long-lasting careers here at Schneider. Let us help you get where you want to go.

Through the ranks: Ken’s story
My name is Ken Pearce. I’m the Bulk Operating Center Manager in Gary, IN. I’ve been with Schneider National since October 1989. In that time, I’ve been everything from a team driver to a solo driver, a training engineer to a service team leader and a loss prevention manager to an operating center manager.
Getting where I am today wasn’t without it’s challenges; it took a lot of dedication and hard work to move from driver to manager. With some help from my managers and training initiatives, I was able to get out from behind the wheel and help other drivers who wanted something more, just like me. The first step was getting myself into training. Managers choose the top drivers to become training instructors. Get yourself noticed. Keep in close contact with your team leader — the more you get yourself in front of your manager, the more readily he or she will think of you when opportunities present themselves. Don’t give up. If you really want to move into a management position, keep at it. It took me nearly seven years to become a manager, but looking back, my experiences driving have made me a better manager today. Now, I’m accountable for over 150 drivers and four managers—three of the managers in my team started out as drivers too.

I have been given opportunities to advance my career, and I’ve always enjoyed the people that I’ve worked with. It’s the people that make the difference — because of them, my experiences here have been great. I don’t feel that I’ve ever been held back, but instead, pushed forward and into new adventures. I feel very fortunate to be where I am. With Schneider National, I feel that I have career success.
