Orientation & Safety

Expect Great Things

When you join Schneider National as an owner-operator, you'll be in the fast lane to a great career with a company you can rely on. You'll participate in our driver orientation program, which is a three-and-a-half day training session. You'll get paid for attending and completing the session.

A DOT Drug Screen and physical will be completed prior to orientation, which includes:

  • Additional classroom training
  • Road test
  • Schneider National principles and procedures
  • Operating Center procedures
  • Core Values
    • Safety first and always
    • Integrity
    • Respect
    • Excellence

While you are completing orientation, your truck will have an appointment with our shop, where it will go through an inspection (including DOT standards and regulations) to ensure that your truck is running at the peak of performance. This will help protect your Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) rating. We will also install the satellite/mobile communication equipment you’ll need to stay connected to the network, as well as the base plate (if taken through Schneider National).

During orientation, you will meet your independent contractor advisor. Your advisor will be there to guide and support you while you're out on the road, assisting with issues concerning dispatch, compensation and additional training. They are the go-to person you can rely on every day no matter where you are.

Safety First and Always
Above all else, Schneider values safety. It’s evident in the way we treat each other and why we work so hard to ensure safe conditions for ourselves, you and the motoring public with whom we share the road. Nothing we do is worth hurting ourselves or others.
