As a safety conscious professional interested in Schneider National driving opportunities, you must agree to not read or respond to these messages unless you are stopped and off the road. Schneider National supports the FMCSA ban on texting by commercial motor vehicle truck drivers while they are driving.
Today's professional truck drivers worry about equipment more than ever. From CSA concerns to lost earnings caused by maintenance downtime, the equipment you drive impacts your livelihood. Schneider National gets it.
That's why we're adding 3,000 new trucks to our fleet in 2012. New equipment means fewer repairs, giving you more time to get behind the wheel and do the job you love. These 2012 and 2013 tractors will be introduced to the Schneider fleet at a rate of 75 per week. By the end of the year, nearly one-third of Schneider's 10,000+ trucks will be brand-new.
Safety First and Always Each new unit includes the OnGuard Collision Safety System. OnGuard features a forward-looking radar sensor that monitors the distance, speed, and deceleration of a vehicle ahead and alerts the driver to take appropriate action through an in-cab display. If the driver doesn't immediately decelerate, the system automatically dethrottles the engine and provides up to 50% full brake apply.
In-Cab Technology Over 20 years ago, we installed the industry’s first satellite system, connecting a nationwide network of drivers and equipment and leading the industry into the future. Today, we’re doing it again. Our fleet is fully equipped with the new and improved wireless Qualcomm Mobile Communication Platform. Watch driver testimonials >>
Qualcomm Mobile Communications Platform (MCP 200) Capabilities-at-a-Glance
Physical Unit The MCP200 device includes a color screen and pull-out keypad, with many comparing it to a personal computer.
“It was a lot simpler than I expected. I am not a techy. It’s very intuitive. It does what you would expect it to do.” Greg Mossholder, 17 ½ year Schneider driver
Web Browsing Drivers have access to weather conditions, Web sites and personal e-mail accounts at designated, secure Wi-Fi hot spots.
“This device brings the transportation industry out of the 80s and into 2010. The unit is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. If you have been on a computer, and most of us have, you will have no problems.” Schneider driver Kirby Sollom
GPS Navigation The MCP200 device features text-to-voice communication allowing drivers to hear messages and directions while driving eliminating the need to stop and read messages, directions or new work assignments. It also features turn-by-turn directions that can be previewed pre-trip and via en-route, comparable to an automobile GPS system.
“It's both a time saver and an anxiety saver. I can pay attention to driving versus looking for rusted out, 20 year old street signs.” Andy Roberts, two-year Schneider driver
Electronic Logging Electronic logging simplifies the job for drivers because it eliminates manual logging while continually providing updated hours of service information. The system alerts drivers when work hours are about to expire. This technology has a significant impact on drivers' daily productivity, saving on average 20 minutes a day.
“You know you're legal as a beagle.” Greg Mossholder, 17-year Schneider driver
Physical Unit Large, color touch-screen with pull-out keyboard similar in design to a laptop; Intuitive system creates user-friendly experience
GPS Navigation Assists trip planning / detours and rerouting / driving conditions; Turn-by-turn truck route directions available pre-trip and via audio enroute (similar to automotive GPS)
Wireless Internet Connectivity Access to Web sites and personal e-mail accounts
Text-to-Voice Messaging System reads messages to drivers; no longer necessary to stop driving to receive messages
Electronic Logging Worry-free logging process for drivers; automatically updates hours of service; Alerts driver when work hours have expired

Eco-Friendly Equipment New equipment means more than just a comfortable experience for our drivers. It’s also better for our planet. By keeping our tractor fleet younger, we’re able to achieve our green initiatives. The engine inside each of the 3,000 new tractors meets the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2010 emission requirements. In addition, these tractors have features to reduce drag, optimize fuel efficiency and improve mileage per gallon. Annually, the new trucks will save almost 2 million gallons of fuel and over 22,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
Bigger Miles Schneider National’s fleet also consists of over 33,000 van trailers, 14,000 intermodal containers and 1,500 tanker trailers. With so many units available, we are better equipped to reduce costly trailer searches and wait times for loading and unloading, resulting in more logged miles for our drivers each and every day.
